- On Monday and Tuesday, students will be taking the End-of -Year math test.
- We will begin the Getting Ready for Grade 6 Unit of Wednesday.
- We will complete lessons 1-3 this week.
- There will be one page of math homework assigned nightly.
- There are many resources available on ThinkCentral to help students.
- Every Friday, we will be having a multiplication timed test. Students should be practicing their multiplication facts daily.
- Small Group Reading
- Students have been placed into leveled small groups based on the results of their Unit 5 assessments.
- Students will be reading the following books this week: Sarah, Plain and Tall; Jim Ugly; Bound for Oregon; Letters from the Corrugated Castle.
- Students will also be completing learning stations during our small group reading time. All of these activities go along with our Unit 6 theme of what does it take to settle a new land? Students will turn in a packet of their work which will also count toward their social studies grades.
- Reading
- Unit 6 is entitled The Wild West. Students will be working to answer the question: What does it take to settle a new land? This unit will focus on social studies concepts as well so some of the assignments during this unit will count toward students' social studies grades.
- Students will be reading the play The Road to Rhyolite by Shirleyann Costigan.
- Comprehension skills for this week are: cause and effect, learn to visualize, compare language, compare settings in Drama.
- The test will be on Tuesday, April 25th.
- Unit 6 is entitled The Wild West. Students will be working to answer the question: What does it take to settle a new land? This unit will focus on social studies concepts as well so some of the assignments during this unit will count toward students' social studies grades.
- The writing project for this week will be to write a journal entry. This is the prompt: You are a miner in Rhyolite who is keeping a journal for himself about his experiences. Write a journal entry about what your life as a miner is like and how you feel about it.
- Due Wednesday, April 26th.
- Students will be graded according to the writing rubric which can be found on the top right corner of this page.
Spelling- This week we will be working on spelling words with oi, oy, ou, ow and commonly misspelled words.
- The words are: allowed, alloy, bout, coiled, confound, crouching, downhearted, exploit, outlandish, ploy, pounced, profound, renounce, void, vow, council, counsel, flair, flare.
- The spelling test will be on Tuesday, April 25th.
Grammar- Students will be working on using possessive and demonstrative pronouns.
- Students are encouraged to take good grammar notes and to review their notes before each test.

- Social Studies
- We will be starting our musical entitled How the West Was Really Won. This musical goes with our Unit 6 theme of The Wild West. All students will be require to participate as part of their social studies grades.
Read Aloud
- We are reading the book, The Serpent Never Sleeps by Scott O'Dell. We will be researching the phenomenon of St. Elmo's Fire. The assignment is due on Tuesday, April 24th and can be found on the top right corner of this page.
