- Math
- We are working on Chapter7: Multiply Fractions.
- We will complete lessons 7.10- Chapter Review this week.
- On Thursday, students will take the Chapter 7 test.
- We will begin Chapter 8: Divide Fractions, on Friday.
- There will be one page of math homework assigned nightly.
- There are many resources available on ThinkCentral to help students.
- Every Friday, we will be having a multiplication timed test. Students should be practicing their multiplication facts daily.
- Small Group Reading
- Students will be placed into leveled small groups based on the results of their Unit 3 assessments.
- Students will be reading the following books this week: Votes for Women, The Struggle for Equality, A Strong Right Arm: The Story of Mamie "Peanut" Johnson, With Courage and Cloth. Students will also be completing learning stations during our small group reading time. All of these activities go along with our Unit 4 theme of justice. Students will turn in a packet of their work which will also count toward their social studies grades.

- Unit 4 is entitled Justice. Students will be working to answer the question: What is justice? This unit will focus on social studies concepts as well so some of the assignments during this unit will count toward students' social studies grades.
- Students will be reading the social studies article, A Filmmaker for Justice by Nancy-Jo Hereford.
- Comprehension skills for this week are: explain relationships between ideas in a text, make inferences, text structure, compare literary language, compare text structures.
- The test will be on Monday, January 23rd.

- The writing project for this week will be to write a research report. This is the prompt: Write a report about an event in U.S. history when justice was achieved. Place your reports in a journal called Justice in America.

- Students will be graded according to the writing rubric which can be found on the top right corner of this page.
Spelling- This week we will be working on spelling verbs ending in -ing and commonly misspelled words.
- The words are: advising, balancing, declaring, emerging, exhibiting, governing, insisting, justifying, mentioning, oppressing, prohibiting, persuading, rebelling, revolting, vetoing, principle, principal, pleas, please.
- The spelling test will be on Monday, January 23rd.
Grammar- Students will be working on using present-perfect tense and forms of be and have.
- Students are encouraged to take good grammar notes and to review their notes before each test.
- The grammar test will be on Monday, January 23rd.
- We are reading the book, Elijah of Buxton by Christopher Paul Curtis.
Science - Our school has adopted a new science program, Interactive Science!
- We are working on Chapter 1: Properties of Matter this week.
